Economic and social development through electrification of remote mountainous villages in Tajikistan.

Target area

Kuhistoni Mastchoh district, Tajikistan.

Goal

To significantly improve the living conditions of the population in off-grid settlements in the eastern part of the Zeravshan Valley and sustainably reduce their resource consumption.

Specific                 objectives

·    Thirty off-grid communities in the eastern Zarafshan Valley are using electrification and energy efficiency measures to expand local social and economic opportunities and sustainably reduce their fuelwood consumption.

Results

·   8 municipalities are constantly supplied with electricity from 8 professional small hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 30-120 kW;

·   680 households received access to a constant electricity supply of 500 watts per household;

·   14 public infrastructure facilities received access to adequate electricity supply and the ability to use basic tools and equipment;

·   23 companies have gained access to a permanent power supply and are now economically viable;

·   782 households installed renewable energy technologies (including 250 vulnerable families) and demonstration models (for 22 users who distributed and installed 40 renewable energy technologies);

·    An official structure for operation and maintenance has been created at six SHPP sites in two villages of the internal line;

·   10 permanent employees took part in various trainings.
